Cantor Talya Smilowitz was born and raised in West Hartford, Connecticut, and holds degrees from The Juilliard School and the Manhattan School of Music before entering the cantorate. She has performed in intimate jazz clubs, houses of worship, and concert halls throughout the United States, China, and France, sharing her passion for music, storytelling, and connection with audiences around the world.
in addition to her musical training, Talya studied acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York City and has been a proud member of Actors' Equity Association for many years.
After sixteen years of serving Congregation L'Dor V'Dor on Long Island, Talya began her role on July 1, 2025, as Cantor and sole clergy leader of Temple Beth Hillel in South Windsor, Connecticut.
